The U-Bahn, short for, 'Untergrundbahn' and German for, 'underground railway' began in 1902 with the U1 line. It has expanded to ten lines and 173 stations across 146 kilometres. The stations colourful tiles reflect Berlin's Cold War divisions, now symbolising Berlin's journey from division to cohesion.
